We are really getting underway next week!  I know these are long and detailed News & Notes for now, but they are chalk-full of valuable and necessary information.  Thank you for taking time to read all of this important document.  PD Schedules will be available Tuesday, Aug. 9 for those interested.  As always, please let me know if you have any questions about anything! ~Beth

Monday, August 8  

• New Teacher Academy Day 3: start time 8:00 am at Riverivew.  Dress:  Business casual; lunch will be provided.

 

Tuesday, August 9  Dress: casual, try to avoid red

• First day back! Welcome, teachers!!! Work Day for certified staff.  ** Last year, many grade-levels took advantage of this time to work on their Parent Information Night (e-PIN) via screencastomatic.  This is the same way we will be communicating parent expectations this year as well.

• Pictures will be taken by Traci, our computers teacher, for classroom doors.  Traci will have some kind of background on the green screen for us, so please don't wear red in case there's a black outer space background.  A HUGE Thank you to Traci for spending her time doing this for us all!!

• We will be decorating our classroom doors to fit with our "Go Boldly" outer space theme! Some time will be provided on Wednesday to take care of this with an assigned partner, but for those who want to get started early, ideas will be available and provided by the Journey Team if you need some inspiration. :)  When planning, please be mindful of our custodians and all the work they do to remove all of the adhesive from our doors every summer.  See attached list of Door Decorating Partners at the end of this agenda if you want to contact your partner ahead of time to decide on ideas.  Otherwise, the Partner list will be available in the office upon your return.  No two doors have to look the same! Creativity is encouraged!

• PTA will be pre-delivering all pre-ordered school supply sets (morning of Aug. 11) to classrooms instead of having students pick them up in the cafeteria at BTSB.  They are planning on placing the boxes with student names on each box under the classroom whiteboard unless you specify an alternate location on your white board where you would like them to leave the supplies instead. 

 

Wednesday, Aug 10  Dress: *Wear black staff shirt with the 'Go Boldly' statement on the back, jeans/casual pants okay

• 8:30 am District Convocation at MVHS, followed by district collaboration time for certified staff.  Please consider bringing items for the DTA-sponsored food drive.

• Afternoon – Building-level PD, including time to work on e-PIN/screencast-o-matic; release at 4:00 pm

• We'll be working on a special project during our PD time throughout pre-service days.  If you're a planner, you may want to bring pictures of your family, a dream place (either somewhere you've been or dream to go), your favorite food, color, team, etc.  You may also want your favorite markers, crayons, stickers, etc.  More details will be revealed throughout PD! 

• Paras and aides’ first day back.  Please report to your direct supervisors for your responsibilities during pre-service days.

• Teachers to receive class lists.

• WASH YOUR STAFF SHIRT, (and put a $10 bill in your purse if you want to do the group lunch on the 11th!) 

 

For all PD provided at Riverview, please bring your laptop, writer's notebook, and a writing utensil

Thursday, Aug. 11  Dress: casual 8:00-4:00 until Back-to-School Bash at 5:00pm.  

• Building PD 8:00-11:30 am for certified staff.  Afternoon teacher work time/release at 4:00 pm. Classified staff to see supervisors for work day agenda.

• LUNCH OPTION:  If you choose to participate, bring $10 cash to order a Pizza Shoppe personal pan pizza, salad with pink dressing, and drink special! YUM!  Cost will be $10, which will include tip.   Payments are cash only.  

• 5:00-7:00 pm – Back To School Bash!!!!!!  Wear black staff shirt with some sort of pants/capris/slacks (no jeans, please) with Go Boldly on the back.  Certified staff are required to attend.

• First Day of School is a HALF Day for students in grades 1-5:  8:45am - 12:05pm (no lunch; students will need to bring a snack)

• Kindergarten Open House 9:00am - 12:00pm

• Afternoon is teacher work time.

 

Wednesday, August 17 – First Day of School for Kindergarteners

• Grades K-5 typical school day schedule.  

 

Thursday, August 18 – First day of school for kindergarten students.

Friday, Aug. 19

• PTA-sponsored Ice Cream Social 6:30-7:30 pm.  All staff are encouraged to attend and sign up to help scoop ice cream!
