Star Date: July 29 - Aug. 19

Dear Riverview Staff,

Welcome back (almost) to the new school year!  I don’t know about you, but summer break has been a wonderful time of relaxation and rejuvenation, and now I am more than ready to jump back into what is guaranteed to be an innovative school year.  While this is a long email, I hope you will find the information useful and pertinent to questions you may have.  I cannot tell you how much hard work our amazing custodians have put into makin our building beautiful again!  They have spent the summer moving/replacing furniture in each classroom, cleaning carpets, waxing floors, and cleaning of our building to make it look sparkling and spotless….when you see Mary, Kathy Z, or Rick, please take a moment to thank them personally for all of their efforts in ensuring that Riverview is the best looking building in the district!  Their work is much appreciated, and of the highest quality!

As always, there is much to do to prior to August 16, and there are probably more than a few of you itching to get into the building to start working on your rooms.  I would like to provide a general timeline/overview of the building plans between now and the first day, so you can begin to plan accordingly if you would like.

I am also attaching four documents for your reference:

  • A Master Calendar 2015-16, which outlines many of the regular building-level meetings for the year.

  • The Master Building Schedule, which is the daily schedule for each grade level, as created and approved by the 15-16 PAC Team.

  • The district-provided school calendar

  • The district-provided school calendar with ‘black out’ dates noted, in which certified staff cannot use personal/discretionary leave on without prior district approval.

Thursday, Aug. 11 is our Back to School Bash (BTSB) from 5:00-7:00 pm.  I will be sending parents a Skyward message (that I will then forward your way) informing them of staffing changes as well as reminding them that our BTSB will be a time to meet the teacher, sign up for extracurricular activities (we are offering Spanish this year!), and join the PTA.

Monday Aug. 1 – Friday Aug. 5 - Open Enrollment Begins Aug. 3

  • Returning teachers may stop by to pick up your badge/keys (suggested time: 9:00-10:00am, so as to not interrupt the office operations of open enrollment).

  • First day back! Welcome back, truly, for certified staff!  Work Day for certified staff.  ** Last year, many grade-levels took advantage of this time to work on their Parent Information Night (e-PIN) via screencastomatic.  This is the same way we will be communicating parent expectations this year as well.

  • PTA will be pre-delivering all pre-ordered school supply sets (morning of Aug. 11) to classrooms instead of having students pick them up in the cafeteria at BTSB.  They are planning on placing the boxes with student names on each box under the classroom whiteboard unless you specify an alternate location on your white board where you would like them to leave the supplies instead.

Wednesday, Aug 10

  • 8:30 am District Convocation at MVHS, followed by district collaboration time for certified staff; classified staff to return to the building after Convocation unless otherwise specified by their supervisors/departments. *Wear black staff shirt with the 'Go Boldly' statement on the back.
